Tunis – Arrival

Upon arrival at Tunis-Carthage International Airport, you will be met by your private driver / guide and taken to your hotel for check-in. Depending on your time of arrival, you may begin with a tour of the old medina (ancient city) of Tunis. From the charming architecture to the picturesque souks (markets), the ancient medina is well worth a visit. HOTEL OPTIONS: Choice of 3-star, 4-star, 5-star or 5-star deluxe hotels

Bardo Museum / Carthage / Sidi Bou Said

Cafe at Sidi Bou Said After breakfast, you will visit the ancient archaeological site of Carthage, once the largest ancient city in northern Africa. This site holds ruins from many eras of history: the Punics, Romans, Vandals and Byzantines all made claim to this area at some point.  Carthage. Your guide will take you to the Phoenician Cemetery, Antonin’s Bath, Punic Harbors, the Carthage Museum and more. Depending on your time, you may want to take a drive up to the beautiful Sidi Bou Said, which overlooks the Gulf of Tunis. ** You would also have visited the Bardo Museum on this day. Dougga / Bulla Regia / El Kef

After breakfast you will travel to Dougga, the Roman Archaeological site. This enormous site is one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in Tunisia, and it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The site overlooks the vast regions surrounding it and it’s not uncommon to see locals herding their sheep through the Roman ruins. Continue north to Bulla Regia where you will find some of the best-preserved Roman villas that were built underground. You will also visit a basicila and an amphitheater with a large mosaic of a bear. St. Augustine of Hippo once visited Bulla Regia in 399AD and stood in this amphitheater to reproach the citizens for their lack of faith. After your visit, travel to El Kef for the night. El Kef / Makthar / Sbietla / Kairouan

Walls at El Kef After breakfast, you will set off to explore the Roman site of Makthar. Scattered with temples, arches, and amphitheaters, Makthar allows for a glimpse into Roman life. Next, you will head off to Sbeitla, another of Tunisia’s ancient Roman sites. Continue to the spiritual capital of Tunisia, Kairouan. HOTEL OPTION: 5-Star hotel only

Kairouan / Mides / Tamerza / Chebika / Tozeur

After an early breakfast, you will want to visit the amazing mosque of Sidi Okba, ancient medina and the Aghlabid pool. After your time exploring this historic city, you will start your journey into the desert region. Your first stop will be the famous mountain oasis town of Tamerza. Tozeur / Ong Jemel / Sahara

After breakfast you will have the morning to explore the southern city of Tozeur. Whether it is a tour through the oasis where some of the most succulent dates in the world are grown, or just exploring the city with its unique architecture…Tozeur will surely captivate you with its Saharan charm. Tozeur / Douz / Matmata

After breakfast you drive across the beautiful salt flats of Tunisia and on to Douz, the ‘gateway to the Sahara’. Explore the market, museum and Tunisia’s largest palmery. You may be interested in a 1 hour camel excursion in the Sahara. Continue to Matmata where you will be spending the night in one of the troglodyte dwellings. In fact, at one time there were over 800 homes underground in Matmata. If you are a Star Wars fan, you will especially like this town. El Jem Coliseum / Mahdia / Monastir / Sousse

This morning, you will visit perhaps Tunisia’s most spectacular site, the Coliseum of El Jem; a must-see site. Stop for a minute to imagine life in the gladiator times while discovering the history of El Jem. Afterward, you will travel alongside the beautiful Mediterranean coastline, passing by the coastal cities of Mahdia and Monastir. If time permits, you may visit the Bourguiba Mausoleum, a monumental grave of former president Habib Bourguiba, the father of Tunisian independence. Sousse – free time or day excursion

After breakfast you will have the opportunity to explore Sousse. Founded in 800BC, there is plenty of history to be seen in this ancient city. The Great Mosque, Kasbah and the archeological museum all tell a story of Sousse’s ancient past. You can spend the afternoon shopping in the medina or return to your beach resort to relax or for a swim in the Mediterranean Sea. Nabeul / Kerkouane / Haouaria / Tunis

After a relaxed breakfast, you will head north through the Cap Bon peninsula. Your trip will take you through the coastal town of Nabeul which is Tunisia’s pottery capital. Next, you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kerkouane which boasts some of the best-preserved ruins of the Punic era. Haouaria is situated at the tip of the peninsula and boasts a majestic coastline. The end of the day takes you back to Tunis. HOTEL OPTIONS: Choice of 3-star, 4-star, 5-star or 5-star deluxe hotels

Depart Tunis

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for departure.
