Carthage / Sidi Bou Said / Bardo Museum

After breakfast, you will visit the ancient archaeological site of Carthage, once the most significant ancient city in northern Africa. This site holds ruins from many eras of history: including the Punics, Romans, Vandals, and Byzantines. Your guide will take you to the Phoenician Cemetery, Antonin’s Bath, Punic Harbors, the Carthage Museum, and more. Depending on your time, you may want to drive up to the beautiful Sidi Bou Said, which overlooks the Gulf of Tunis.
Return to Tunis and visit the Bardo Museum. This is a world-class museum featuring the largest collection of mosaics in the world. There are also numerous rooms in the museum featuring artifacts from the Punic to Islamic periods. Dinner will be at the hotel.

Makthar / Kairouan

Today you will visit the archaeological site of Makthar. There are several notable archaeological wonders to keep an eye out for including a Trajan forum, large baths, schola juvenum (Roman minor militia club), and other pre-Roman structures. At the entrance to the archaeological site in Makthar is a museum where you can find some mosaics and other artifacts excavated from this site.
Afterward, you will depart for the famous and historic Islamic city of Kairouan. You will have time to relax in the evening.

After breakfast, you will spend your day exploring the region around Tozeur. Enjoy the Saharan charm of this area, its oasis date farms, and unique architecture. You will visit the impressive gorge and canyon of Mides and Chebika. Then, take a trip into the mountains to see the hidden waterfalls of Tamerza.
In the afternoon, you can explore the historic medina with its unique architecture. You will also visit the Eden Palms Museum where you will step into a date palm grove and learn all about Tozeur’s date production.
Return to Touzer for dinner and the night.

Chott el Jerid / Douz / Tamezret

Salt flats
This morning, travel across the Chott el Jerid, the largest salt flat in Tunisia until you arrive in Douz. Douz is considered a ‘gateway to the Sahara’ and also has the largest date palmary in southern Tunisia.
Travel to the Berber village of Tamezret where you will visit a museum to learn about the unique history, language and culture of the Berbers (also known as Amazigh). Make sure to visit the nearby Cafe Ben Jemaa which dates back to 1932. Enjoy a cup of freshly brewed green tea with local almonds. Here you can go to the rooftop for a panoramic view of the nearby Berber villages of Taoujout and Zraoua. Spend the night in Tamezret or in the nearby Berber village of Matmata.

Today, you will depart the Sahara Desert and make your way to Chenini. Wander through this historic Berber mountainside village. The mountaintop view is well worth the climb to the top
When you are ready, travel to the island of Djerba for dinner and an overnight stay.

Djerba / El Jem / Sousse

Roman amphitheater in Oudhna
Today, you will have a morning departure for El Jem. The Roman Coliseum in this city is one of the best-preserved in the world. It was constructed between 230 and 238 AD and is believed to at one time have hosted between 30,000 to 45,000 spectators. Take time exploring this enormous structure and do not forget to go down to the rooms where gladiators awaited their upcoming battle. There is a museum in the town that hosts a plethora of mosaics. Travel to Sousse and if time remains in the day, perhaps you would like to see the archeological museum, kasbah, and medina. Dinner will be at the hotel.

Sousse / Thurbubo Majus / Zaghouan / Hammamet

Water temple in Zaghouan
After breakfast, you will depart for Thuburbo Majus. This Roman site has a small coliseum, baths, and various Roman houses allowing one to imagine life in a quintessential Roman African city.
Continue to the mountainside Roman site of Zaghouan, where you will find a temple of the ‘water god’. You can still see the remains of the Roman aqueduct which once supplied water to the ancient city of Carthage.
When you are ready, travel to the coastal city of Hammamet. If time permits, you can explore the Hammamet medina. Dinner will be at the hotel.
