1. Djerba Island

It’s no surprise that this island set on the Gulf of Gabes in southeastern Tunisia is one of the country’s most popular tourist destination. While the island of Djerba has many beaches, most travellers tend to stay in the Touristique Zone where there are over 200 beachside resort hotels. A few of the most popular beaches in Djerba include Yati, Lagoon, Sidi Jmour, Jazira and Sidi Mahrez.

While in Djerba, you will also want to visit Houmt Souk to see its museum, visit the Medina for shopping and eat at some of the best restaurants on the island. Erriadh is also a must-visit city for its Djerbahood open-art museum and the El Ghriba Jewish Synagogue which is the oldest synagogue in North Africa and also an annual place of pilgrimage. You’ll also want to visit Guellala which is known for its pottery. There is also a cultural museum located in Guellala which is the highest point on the island.

3. Sousse

The long white sandy beach stretches for about 10 kilometers from the centre of Sousse to Port El Kantaoui. A few stretches are private to the resort hotels, but most is open to the public. Similar to the Hammamet beaches, the summertime is packed with travellers from abroad enjoying the beach during weeklong getaway and staying at one of the nearby beach hotel resort. The beaches of Sousse also attract many Tunisians wanting to swim and to get away from the bustling city. You’ll also often find Tunisian families enjoying a picnic and the cooler air in the late afternoon and early evening.

The island is restricted to a maximum of 20 people at any given time, which makes it feel like your group has exclusive VIP access to the entire island.
