Combine Star Wars with Travel: We have created a 7 day Star Wars tour to Tunisia that will allow you to experience the best Star Wars sites.
Day 1 – Tunis / Djerba Island
Arrive to Tunis and take a 1 hour domestic flight to Djerba Island in Southern Tunisia. Upon arrival in Djerba, your driver will transfer you to your hotel where you can relax and enjoy dinner.
Day 2 – Djerba Island
In the morning, you will visit the Star Wars film locations on Djerba Island. This includes seeing Chalmun’s Cantina and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s house in Ajim, as well as the Toshi Station in Sidi Jemour.
In the afternoon, you will visit other historical and cultural attractions in Djerba Island including the famous pottery town of Guellela, El Ghriba Synagogue (oldest Synagogue in North Africa) and Houmet Souk. Travel back to the hotel for dinner.
Day 3 – Djerba Island / Medenine / Ksar Ouled Soltane / Tataouine / Ksar Hadada / Matmata
In the morning, you will leave Djerba Island by taking a Roman causeway and travel to Medenine. The ksar (ancient granary) here were used as one of the film locations of the Slave Quarters Row where Anakin and Shmi lived. Afterwards, you will travel to Ksar Ouled Soltane, which is considered the best-preserved Ksar in southern Tunisia. This was another film location of the Slave Quarters Row in the Phantom Menace. On your way to your next destination, you will pass by the city of Tataouine, which you might recognize the city’s name the inspiration behind the name of the desert planet in Star Wars.
Your next stop is Ksar Hadada which was a Star Wars Episode I film location of the Slave Quarters Row. Take some time to explore and try to identify the exact film locations featuring Anakin’s Podracer and the balcony where Shmi and Qui-Gon Jin stood. Afterwards, we will depart for Matmata to have dinner and spend the night in a hotel.
Day 4 – Matmata / Douz / Chott El Jerid / Sidi Bouhlel / Tozeur
In the morning, you will visit Hotel Sidi Driss in Matmata, which was once a troglodyte dwelling but was used as the film location of the Lars Homestead interior. This film location was used in the original Star Wars film as well as Attack of the Clones.
When you are ready, will will continue our journey across Chott El Jerid, which is Tunisia’s largest salt flats. We will arrive to Sidi Bouhlel, considered as ‘Star Wars canyon’ where 9 Star Wars scenes were filmed here. Take some time walking through this canyon to identify the Jawa rock where R2D2 was kidnapped, the Sandcrawler parking lot at the canyon entrance, the site where the Jawas were attacked and buried, and more. When you are ready, we will continue to the oasis city of Tozeur to have dinner and spend the night.
Day 5 – Tozeur / Nefta / Ong Jemel / Tozeur
In the morning, you will visit the Lars Homestead exterior in Chott el Jerid which looks like an igloo in the desert. This film location was used in the original Star Wars film, in Attack of the Clones and as the final shot of Revenge of the Sith.
Your next stop is to visit the Mos Espa film set located by the Sahara dunes in Chott el Gharsa. Located right beside the Mos Espa film set is the Yardangs, where the Queen’s Royal Starship landed as well as the famous lightsaber fight scene between Darth Maul and Qui-Gonn in Star Wars Episode I.
Afterwards, you will visit Ong Jemel which means ‘the neck of the camel’ in Arabic. This was the film location in Episode I where Darth Maul overlooks Tatooine, releases his Sith Probes and flies over the cliffs here. When you are ready, we will return to Tozeur to have dinner and to spend the night.
Day 6 – Tozeur / Kairouan / Hammamet
This morning, we will travel to the important Islamic city of Kairouan to visit its historic medina and sites. When you are ready, we will travel to the coastal city of Hammamet for dinner and night.
Day 7 – Tunis / Depart
This morning, we will travel to the capital city Tunis. If time permits, you may visit the Tunis medina to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site and to purchase some souvenirs. You will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
