Ksar Ghilane Tented Camp

Located in the beautiful oasis of Ksar Ghilane you will find this superior tented campsite. When you are staying on the edge of a dessert a tent may sound a little extreme, but Ksar Ghilane is an oasis on its own filled with beauty and hot springs, making it a favourite tourist attraction on the edge of the magnificent Sahara Desert.

The tents look like hotel rooms once you step inside complete with double beds, sitting areas and en-suite bathrooms. Each tent is air conditioned to ensure you are comfortable on a hot summer’s day.

The camp even has its own restaurant with a choice of a buffet or a la carte menu; you can then choose to sit in the shade of the restaurant tent or sit out under the stars and enjoy your traditional cuisine.

Don’t worry this camp also comes with good facilities to ensure you have a comfortable stay including a swimming pool where you can lie back on a hot day and soak up the sun and take a dip in the sparkling pool.

Camel rides can be arranged at the camp where you can ride out straight onto the sandy golden dunes of the Sahara Desert. The most popular route will take you to the Ksar Fort, an ancient Roman fort which has been abandoned for many years; it’s a wonderful ride as you soak up the magnificent scenery and vastness of the dunes and shifting sand.

The closest areas to visit is Chenini and Matmata, both are a fair distance away and can be reached by car. The road leading into Ksar Ghilane isn’t good, but a regular family car can manage it with ease.

Matmata is one of the most beautiful towns you can visit in Tunisia and home to the Berber people who have a unique way of living, they have built their homes underground offering them the best insulation and keeping their homes cool in the hot summer months. The homes blend into the landscape and are an amazing sight to see.

Chenini is also a fair drive away but here you can view a town that is made of stone, a beautiful town oozing history and charm.
